Equinox Fitness Gym Kensington
The Equinox Fitness Gym is housed in the Art Deco Derry & Toms Building which is recognised as the birthplace of Biba Fashion. It is located in Kensington, right at the foot of the Royal Parks. It has an elliptical dome, which is illuminated and is considered as a central architectural feature of this stunning facility. Members of this gym are inspired and energised as they are encouraged to work out with discipline.
Pricey but worth it!
Though the prices at Equinox are on the high side, it is, however, still a hit with many fitness enthusiasts in London who take their personal training program seriously. In the USA, the same chain, Equinox Sports Club, was rated as the best gym by Fitness Magazine. The Kensington facility is a great place to work out. It has been hailed for its anti-gravity chamber which offers four studios, gait correction and a serene spa that provides luxurious facilities.
The Class Timetable
The timetable is impressive as there are more than a hundred classes held every week from 0700 hours to 1900 hours.
`Tabata’ is a dynamic experience for conditioning the body and mind. It is a daring and a courageous program of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workout. It features exercises that last four minutes, during which there are 20-second bouts of ultra-intensity training, followed by ten seconds of rest. This increases athletic performance, enhances the volume of oxygen that an athlete can use (VO2 Max) and reduces body fat. The Tabata Protocol has been recognised and proven to transform body.
Equipment and Facilities
The environment is neat and clean and large windows overlook the High Street. The décor oozes luxury and class. The Art Deco ceiling is designed in the shape of an upside-down race track. There are sufficient machines for everyone to work out and ample space for exercise area so that it does not look crowded.
The machines supplied are all state-of-the-art gadgets and they are designed purely to make you sweat it out. There are cross-trainers, tread mills, moveable staircases and stepping machines that are a cross between a conveyor belt and a climbing wall. The anti-gravity running machine is a big hit with members. It is a treadmill that has a supportive cover that you can zip yourself into and it will hold you aloft.
Services and Amenities
Members at Equinox get to have an exclusive training program that provides a comprehensive body analysis. The changing rooms are smart and there is a steam room and walk-in showers stacked with products offered by Kiehl. These have a clever locking system that does not require coins or keys. The towels provided are both bath size and sport size with chilled eucalyptus – a nice touch. You can also access Wi-Fi from any part of the club. The only thing missing in this ultra-luxurious club is a swimming pool.
